Pesach: The Festival of Freedom

In just a few days, Passover will be celebrated: a holiday full of meanings and symbols that create a timeless bond between today’s Jews and the Jewish people freed from Egyptian slavery by the hand of Moses.

Together, we will explore how Pesach is celebrated: what are the customs in Jewish homes, what do the symbolic foods consumed during the first night’s dinner represent, and what songs are sung by both young and old… we are ready to bet that one of the most famous songs linked to this holiday is familiar to you too! Curious to know which one? We’re waiting for you!

Jewish Resistance in Venice

The contribution of Italian Jews to the Resistance was significant: of a Jewish population of about 38,000, approximately 1,000 actively engaged in fighting Nazi-fascism.
This active resistance took three forms: political conspiracy to overthrow the dictatorship, participation in clandestine organizations to aid Jews in life-threatening danger such as DELASEM, and, above all, armed struggle in partisan brigades.
Men and women, adults and young people, who risked their lives and the lives of their loved ones in the name of the highest value—Freedom.
The tour we offer on April 25, 2025, will tell the story of some of these extraordinary individuals, focusing in particular on our fellow citizens such as Marco Brandes, who, after escaping from the Fossoli concentration camp, joined the partisans, Marco Salvadori, who participated in the Resistance at only 15 years old, and Giuseppe Jona, who sacrificed his life to save many Venetian Jews.

The Time of Shabbat

Every Friday evening, at sunset, Shabbat begins: a special day that stands out from all the others, which are filled with hectic routines and numerous daily commitments.
Calm gestures accompany the Sabbath hours, from lighting the candles on Friday evening to the pages of the prayer book that are read in synagogue on Saturday morning: moments to be experienced with family and loved ones, telling us of a day suspended in time, where there is no room for work, but everything revolves around spiritual rest and prayer.

All tours will include a guided visit to a synagogue and independent access to a second synagogue.
